Hey y’all!
The semester has already hit me hard. That could be due to my bad time management skills or just that I really like my break free time, but either way, it hit me haaard, guys. XD In honor of this, and also probably to take my mind off of it, we are going to bring back a post that I love.
Today, I thought it’d be fun to do a little music catch up. What have I been listening to a lot lately? What have I really enjoyed? I stopped doing these for a while because I was scared that they didn’t get received as well. Understandable, (who wants to listen to a sixteen-year-old scream about the perfection of certain Gruska chords or that this violin part makes her shiver?) but I really like these music posts, and therefore I am reviving them. They make me happy, and I think they’re fun.
The last time I truly made a music post devoted completely to recent favorites was in June. It has been too long. Off we go then.
First up…
En Garde – Ethan Gruska
I am in love with this album already. (Although I should probably mention that I don’t really like Haiku4U) It came out last week, and I really loved his previous album Slowmotionary so I was super excited for this one. It was three years since the last one, so his style changed slightly, but it is still fantastic. My favorite is either Enough for Now, Maybe I’ll Go Nowhere, or Dialing Drunk. I still think that Slowmotionary is my favorite album of his, but even so, I’m giving it a solid 8.5/10.
tryhard – The Band CAMINO
My best friend told me about them a couple days ago and then someone mentioned them again at a leadership meeting, so I figured I would listen. Holy Smokes I Am So Glad I Did. It may be kinda weird to describe, but this album satisfies a very specific need for loud, electric-guitar-driven, “dancing around your room” music. Like their song What I Want? Such a bop! Hush Hush? Fantastic! Haunted?? The best!! Daphne Blue?? Stuck in my head for days! I’m working on going through their earlier EPs because I really like their music, but as of right now, my favorites are either Farsighted or Daphne Blue. 9/10
Blue Monday – remix by Sebastian Böhm (single)
I think this is only here because I saw a heart-stoppingly good edit the other day that had this as the soundtrack. Ever since The Rise of Skywalker (which was absolutely fantastic btw) came out, I have fallen down an endless pit of Ben Solo/Reylo/Star Wars edits and this is one of my FAVORITES. This song is fantastic by itself, but it gets extra points for making me think of that edit. 9/10
1917 – Thomas Newman (original soundtrack)
Okay, so this is one of those movies that I doubt I’ll end up watching because hello it’s WWI and I am really sensitive, but like guys this soundtrack makes me feel things. Thomas Newman soundtracks are fantastic anyway, but like when you put something as big as World War I into a movie and then ask the same man who scored “Nemo Egg (Main Title)” from Finding Nemo and “Fellowship” from Tolkien to do the soundtrack, b r a c e y o u r s e l v e s. The opening track “1917” made me cry the first time I listened to it. As much as I would love to watch this, I probably can’t because I know what happens and my sweet baby heart would not be able to take it. But still. Richard Madden, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Colin Firth??? Yes please! 9.5/10
leading ladies – a playlist made by me
Okay so this really isn’t an album per se, but I have been loving a playlist I made a while back titled “leading ladies.” This contains all of the female character solo-y songs from my giant “FAV MUSICALS” playlist. In contrast to my big broadway playlist, this one only has 90 songs. Some of my favorites to belt recently from this list are “The Wizard And I” from Wicked, “How ‘Bout a Dance” from Bonnie & Clyde, “In My Dreams” and “Once Upon A December” from Anastasia, “Pulled” from The Addams Family, “Not for the Life of Me” from Thoroughly Modern Millie, “Another Life” from Bridges of Madison County, “No One Else” from Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, and “I Don’t Know What I’d Do” from A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love & Murder. I know that’s a long list. I’m also not sorry. XD I love this playlist. 9/10.
Literally anything by Erik Satie or Claude Debussy
I’ve been on a real impressionist composer kick recently. French impressionist composers, to be specific. You want to get pumped? Deux Arabasques, L.74, L.66, Debussy, my friend. Loving life? Prélude de la porte héroïque du ciel, Satie. SO GOOD. 10/10.
Better Word – Leeland
This album gives me chills. You ever just casually listen to something but the Lord is working so heavily through it that you just sit there not wanting to move? This album. It gets me so excited. I love watching Jesus do things. Way Maker is my favorite song. I could sing that forever. 10/10.
I hope I didn’t add to anybody’s music list too heavily. XD This was so fun. I could talk about music all day, but seeing that we can’t do that, this post’ll have to do.
Until next time, friends!!
Go forth, mis amigos and amigas, and smile. Your day is just beginning. Make the best of it. Don’t procrastinate. Work hard. Make me proud. 🙂
Love you all,
Madeleine
Oh, I love Way Maker, too! That song never ceases to tune me into the Spirit.
Your music choices sound great! I’m gong to have to try them out sometime. ;3

You’re welcome! I find that I like many different genres of music as well. ;P Variety is a good thing. Someone said recently that heaven is going to have lots of variety, too. Partaking in it now reflects what it will be like then. =3 😉
