Hey y’all!
Summer, for me at least, is one of the best times for just listening to music. I lie on my floor and watch the ceiling fan go around while I wiggle back and forth to the beat like a excited slug.
I know, I know. I really do know how to party. *thumbs up*
It’s been a while since I did a music post, so I thought why not? It’s especially timely because I have had some songs going constantly as of late.
Summer is for M U S I C and it’s beautiful.
So let’s dive right in! I got lots of things today!
Wait for Me – Hadestown Original Broadway Cast
Guys. This song. Ahhhhhhhhh. I’ve told my bestie this but like this song makes me feel things that I can’t describe. Not only is it a love song from Orpheus to Eurydice, it is a promise that Orpheus will come find her. Like gah and the HARMONIES and the LAAAAALALALALALAAA part is SO HAUNTINGLY BEAUTIFUL. So not only is it fabulous from the story line standpoint, it is beautiful as a piece of music. The video I included below is from this year’s Tony Awards (which btw Hadestown won EIGHT TONYS HOLY CRAP one of which is lighting design and you will see why below)
Atlas: Nine – Sleeping At Last
The stunning Enneagram series has come to a close with this recent release, and honestly, I couldn’t be more pleased. Sleeping At Last is the right artist to create these. His combination of tender lyrics and soaring orchestra to back them up is brilliant. It creates the beautiful effect that has been displayed. I may have cried during this one. It’s that good guys. I think the other thing I liked about this is that no matter your type, you connect to the song. I’m not even a Nine. I’m a Four. Well done, Ryan. Thank you. *curls up and melts into the strings and choir and just cries*
The Valley – Ethan Gruska
Hey speaking of songs that made me cry the first time I heard them… WOOO. I recently watched a doddlevloggle video where she talked about the music she was liking and she mentioned LOVING Ethan Gruska’s album Slowmotionary and, me being me, I was hooked on how she described his dusty, intimate piano sound. I went and found it and cried because LORD HAVE MERCY bittersweet lyrics on top of well-mixed piano and genius chording??? You betcha I’m gonna lose it.
Crowded City Street – also Ethan Gruska
This one is on the same album as the one above it. This song is only like a minute and a half long but he somehow managed to stick so much feeling into it and W O W that is the kind of songwriter I aspire to be, man. The “cleaning up from crying for a death on a birthday” line gets me every single time I listen. chilllssssssssssssss. I’m tryna figure out how to play it currently because it is just that good.
Fireflies – Owl City
I think we all know this one. Probably more for it’s meme status, but it is a legendary song in my eyes. Not only because it was what jumpstarted Adam Young’s career, but because it holds a lot of nostalgia for me, for some reason. It is a total bop, you guys. It’s been in my rotation currently because FIREFLY SEASON.
Honey + Tea – MOZI
This is a very recent find that I happen to adore with all my heart. I am this song. If there was a song to describe me in relation to dating someday in the future, it would be this song. I really hope my boyfriend/fiance/husband someday likes tea and knowledge, man. I reeeeeeeeeeeally hope so. I mean, he can have different tastes but also like, Jesus it would be really nice… just sayin’. XD
So that is all! I hope you enjoyed it! Have fun exploring my favorites this week!
Now go forth, mis amigos and amigas, and smile. Your day is just beginning. Make the best of it. Don’t procrastinate. Work hard. Make me proud. 🙂
Love you all,
Madeleine
