in my room // a lovely clean space makes for a clean-feeling you

Hey y’all!

I hope you have all had good weeks! Mine has been a little crazy and filled with a little bit of sleep deprivation but other than that, it’s been okay!

Two weeks ago now, I deep cleaned my room. And completely reorganized my bookshelf. It felt so good. I will have pictures as proof. I’m just really proud of it.

I’m a person who really enjoys organization.


I like my version of organization. If I know where things are, and everything has a place, it’s organized.

Other people might come in and disagree, but for me, my room is extremely orderly. 😂

So how does one achieve this status of clean? How does a person reach the desired order out of clutter and chaos?

Well, lucky for you, I am an expert.

not really. please do not use this as fact. XD I am not an expert. not in the slightest. my family can testify. 

Let’s go through some easy steps for a cleaner room for a happier you! (This is super fitting, especially with spring cleaning approaching!)

  1. make your bed.

    this will become clear in a second, but for one, it just makes you feel nicer. I don’t care if it’s like 8pm and you know you’re getting in bed in a couple hours. Make the bed. I can’t stress it enough. It makes you feel so good. 🙂

  2. put everything that is on your floor on your bed.

    This may seem like a weird step, but it actually begins to make more sense as you go along. First off, if you are cleaning, it isn’t nice to trip over piles of laundry or books or whatever is covering your floor. Picking that up first reduces injuries. XD Additionally, it gives you the motivation to follow through. If you are like me, it can sometimes come to the end of the day without me making much headway. Having piles of crap on your bed prevents you from going to sleep without the job being done. (unless, of course, you are super persistent and just push it all off your bed. Not that I’ve done that…)

  3. tidy the surfaces around your room in a neat, orderly manner.

    What I like to do here is pick a corner to start in and work around the room. Let’s say you start in the corner by your bed. The first thing you would do is clear off your bedside table. Dust it off and then put things back on it, minus any trash, dirty dishes, or items that don’t belong in that particular area. Move to the next space and repeat the process. This could be the tops of bookshelves, dressers, or your desk. Any space that holds junk, really. XD Make sure it feels nice. Straighten books, arrange the stuffed animals the way you like; do anything that makes you feel happier. It’s your room, and if it’s making you feel upset because of the clutter, get rid of the clutter. It’s okay to let stuff go! This leads to the next thing…

  4. get rid of the things that you wouldn’t seek out

    This sounds kinda weird but if you haven’t touched it in a while or gone looking for it, it’s probably not needed. Now hear me out: I know it’s hard sometimes to get rid of things, especially if they have sentimental value. However, if it doesn’t spark joy in your day to day life, you probably don’t need it. As Marie Kondo says, “When you surround yourself with possessions that spark joy, you’ll create a home and a life you love.”

  5. don’t just stop with ‘tidy’

    Once you have a pile of stuff on your bed and your spaces around your room are neatened up, (woah apparently neatened is a word… that’s so weird. THERE’S YOUR INFORMATIONAL TIDBIT FOR THE DAY, KIDS) you can now work on going back through and organizing the things! Yaaaay! seriously though it is my favorite part… Maybe it’s my perfectionistic nature, who knows, but I love organization. There are whole books on organization, so a couple sentences won’t really cut it. But to summarize it, make sure you know where things are and that it is neat and tidy. There should not be random crap lying around. That is not organized. That is cancatervating. Look it up.

  6. v a c u u m.

    The floor is a gross place. We will not discuss the contents there but please, believe me when I say this, it’s disgusting. Vacuum your floor. It begs you.

  7.  destroy the crap pile on the bed

    This is the last part of the process! Decimate the pile on the bed! If it is dirty laundry, put it in the washing machine or a laundry basket. If it is just random stuff, find homes for the things. Don’t let them be homeless! And definitely don’t put it back on the floor! Don’t ruin what you’ve worked so hard for. XD Once you’ve done this, straighten out your made bed. Give it a good fluff and that’s it! Your room is complete! 🙂

Y’all!! Good job!! That’s it!

Here are some extra little tips from me to you:

  • have some upbeat music going. it makes everything better.
  • find some little rewards for yourself if you have a hard time getting motivated to clean. My personal favorites include chocolate or YouTube videos.
  • enjoy your clean room! you worked very hard on it! be proud of your hard work!
